Circa Historical Screenplay Competition Criteria And Judging Procedures

Criteria

Each screenplay entry in each category will be given a careful, in-depth and comprehensive critique on factual, creative and technical aspects out of 100 Points.

Historical Screenplay – 60% (Story – 10%, Description and Detail – 10%, Plot – 10%, Character – 10%, Dialogue – 10%, Pacing– 10%)
Accuracy of Historical Facts – 10%
Theme and Impact in our Modern Society – 10%
Creativity and Innovation – 10%
Spelling, Grammar and Formatting – 10%

Judging Procedures

All three categories: Feature Screenplay, TV Pilot and Short Screenplay compete for Circa Historical Screenplay Competition Award: “Best Historical Screenplay”.

Each Screenplay entry will be judged by a selected group of screenwriting professionals.

Quarterfinals:

Each Screenplay entry will be judged based on ‘The Criteria’ and given Score out of 100. The top 25 Screenplays with the highest Scores out of 100 advance to the Quarterfinals.

Semifinals:

Each Screenplay will get a fresh read from a different Judge. Each Screenplay will be judged based on ‘The Criteria’ and given Score out of 100. Scores from the Preliminary will be added to the Quarterfinals Scores. The top 12 Screenplays with the highest Scores out of 200 advance to the Finals.

Finals:

Each Screenplay will get a fresh read from a different Judge. Each Screenplay will be judged based on ‘The Criteria’ and given Score out of 100. Scores from the Quarterfinals will be added to the Semifinals Scores. The top 6 Screenplays with the highest Scores out of 300 advance to the Finals.

Winner:

Each Screenplay will get a fresh read from a different Judge. Each Screenplay will be judged based on ‘The Criteria’ and given Score out of 100. Scores from the Semifinals will be added to the Finals Scores. The top Screenplay with the highest score out of 400 will be awarded the “Best Historical Screenplay” and the Winner of Circa Historical Screenplay Competition.
